Project Voodoo
Remember the Twitter thread thing I did last year where I built Brickheadz versions of my friends? I've decided to transfer all of it here for posterity, with expanded commentary and a cheeky project name. I'm trying to think of ways to add more content to this site that's more than just the blog, and this was the least stupid idea I had.
If you have no idea what I'm talking about, I talk about it here.

SAM
• I always see Sam dressed to the nines, so I tried to reflect that by experimenting with a dress-type build that I'd just learned that day. I didn't know what to do with her hair (there were too many options), so I went the short route.

CHESCA
• Chesca's favorite color is green, and (when I used to see her in school) wears long skirts a lot. The outfit was an attempt to combine these two facts. I remember her hair being super long most of the time, so building her was a great opportunity to try and go all out on that respect.

LANCE
• Lance is probably one of the biggest Lakers fans I know (and I know a few), so I obviously had to make something with a purple/yellow color scheme. He's also got curly hair, so that was fun to figure out.

PAT B.
• I went for the punk rock vibe for Pat, and for whatever reason, I ended up building her as Marceline from Adventure Time. Really happy with how the hair came together with this build.

FRED
• When I first started this project, I felt it imperative that the first build be in memory of Fred. He was a huge football fan, so I built him sporting the kit of his favorite team, Arsenal. I miss you, old friend.

ALLEN
• In the first of many instances where I try to combine two unrelated themes, I combine Allen's interests in both Pokémon and pro wrestling (interests he and I share) in this build. His outfit is based on Pokémon Champion Lance (not to be confused with the previous Lance), and he's holding a wrestling championship belt. It makes no sense.

KAREL
• I have plenty of friends in med school, and I could have easily taken the bitch route and build the same uniform for all of them. Karel was the first med student to add his name into the hat for this project, so I decided then and there that only he gets the uniform build. Figuring out his hair was a worthy challenge.

MAXINE
• I don't know many people with near-perfectly straight hair, and I think Maxine fits that bill perfectly. I made sure to reflect this observation in the build. I also added a bow (mostly because I wanted to try the build, and it so happened that it fit well with her). The outfit is my attempt at a lab gown.

POCH
• This build actually started as somebody else. In the middle of figuring out the hair, I took a look and thought, this looks more like my best friend than this other person. I stopped what I was doing and finished this build. I had this build ready long before Poch even liked the tweet.

RENIEL
• I had a ton of fun figuring out how to translate Reniel's quite curly hair into a build. Happy with how that turned out. He's in table tennis mode here because he was taking the course the semester before I started this project, and I was using that memory as reference.

MIGO
• Migo's a virtuoso in a variety of instruments, but I know him most for his proficiency in the violin, so I made sure to build one of those to compliment his character. His outfit is semi-inspired by pro wrestler Shinsuke Nakamura, who has an entrance theme that features a ton of violins.

FACE
• Face does reviews of audio products on his blog (which you can visit here), so he was the perfect candidate to try out the headphones assembly on.

PAOLO
• Paolo is a fellow pro wrestling fan, so I awarded him with a wrestling championship belt of his own. Figuring out how to cleanly attach it to the waist took me a lot longer than it should have.

NEIL
• Neil's another fellow pro wrestling fan, so he also gets a title belt. It took me a bit to figure out how to build his hair, and I also went back and forth on whether to add facial hair.

JEROME
• Jerome and I both enjoy Undertale, so I put him in an outfit reminiscent of the game's protagonist. Ignore the bladed weapon in his hand. Seriously, don't worry about it.

ISABELLE
• I decked out Isabelle in Clone Trooper armor (semi-inspired by Commander Cody), because Star Wars is great.

RIANA
• Riana's outfit here wasn't really based on anything; I just wanted to have fun with colors in this build. She's equipped with a camera, because photographer extraordinaires like her should never be without one.

SHEENA
• I had a ton of options with what to do with Sheena's hair. I ultimately settled on something based on what she looked like when she first got super short hair (to the surprise of our friends).

KYRA
• Kyra's a big Potterhead, so I conjured up an outfit build that looked like the Hogwarts uniform. If I had owned the Hermione Brickheadz set then, I would've just used the torso of that build. I was really happy with the hair build with this one; it's my best attempt at over-the-shoulder hair to date.

MOSES
• While we were at the studio for our college yearbook photoshoot, Moses at one point donned a Supergirl costume. I decided to pay homage to that legendary moment, even going as far as to place the figure on a mountaintop.

ANDREI
• Andrei likes The Flash show (and DC Comics at large), so I decked him out in Kid Flash's costume. Or it could be Reverse Flash. I don't know; there's too many goddamn speedsters these days.

AJI
• This was the first instance I used a hair color other than black (I don't know any blondes or redheads), so this was a welcome opportunity. The outfit is based on what I see Aji wear frequently (with the added bonus of reflecting her affinity for the color blue).

KAT
• One of the strongest memories I have of Kat was her undying love of Sasuke back in grade school. I originally planned to build her as Sasuke, but ultimately decided that building her as Sakura would be infinitely more hilarious.

AXL
• Axl's one of the biggest PokéFans I know, so the first thing I thought of doing was building him as one of the game's protagonists. I settled with the Gen VII protagonist (recency bias, sorry), and equipped him with a camera (because he's also a photography god).

AL
• Al's a passionate activist, and I wanted to reflect that passion in my build. I wish I had oriented the sign better, though.

KANG
• My original plan was a build based on a pun; there's a character in Marvel Comics named Kang the Conqueror, and I basically wanted to build Kang as Kang. It sadly didn't pan out, but building the yo-yo (Kang's a wizard with the thing) was challenging in itself.

DERRYCK
• That's me! I was the first one I built. Figuring out what to do with my hair was pretty tough (because my hair in real life is fucking terrible). I also didn't know how to add facial hair without getting in the way of the glasses.

FRANCIS R.
• I don't know why, but I decided to give Francis the backwards cap. I think I want to revisit this one and actually build his hair. I'm sorry the glasses are crooked in this shot.

MIGI
• Another one of my favorites, because I feel like I did a great job of capturing Migi's "signature" look. He's also quite skilled with the camera.

JED
• Jed's another PokéFan, so I had that in mind when I first started building. Instead of a design based on a protagonist, I went with the Team Rocket look. Could've done that R logo better if I had the right piece, but I'm pretty happy with it. My alternate plan was to build him as Hatsune Miku, but I didn't have the pieces for that. Maybe for a "revisited" build...

LOIS
• During the time this project was going on, Lois had Diane (from BoJack Horseman, a show she loves and I enjoy myself) as her profile picture for everything. Eventually, I reached a point where I couldn't dissociate the two, and that is exemplary in my build of her. I'll probably try building Diane herself once I get some dark blue pieces for her hair.

GAYLE
• This was another instance where I had a wide variety of options for hair builds. I went for something in the mid-length range. I'm not 100% satisfied with how it turned out, so this build may be worth revisiting.

SHEELA
• The Flash is one of the shows Sheela and I bonded over, so I went and made her The Flash, complete with a speed trail (that I want to build a better version of).

NELL
• Whenever I think of people with hair dyed in vibrant colors, I usually think of Nell. I tried to show off that trait with a blue/black color scheme for her hair. I want to revisit this one and use more exciting colors.

GINO
• I always thought Gino looked like the guitarist of System of a Down, so I used that as a basis for my design. It helps that Gino is pretty skilled with a guitar himself, so the theme lined up perfectly.
